Kenya Chief Justice David Maraga has distanced himself from an alleged internal memo being circulated in social media warning judges and magistrates not to attend opposition’s NASA Raila Odinga’s swearing in ceremony scheduled on 30th January 2018.
Speaking to journalists after official opening of induction retreat for departmental committees on Legal affairs in a Mombasa hotel, Maraga insisted that the Kenyan Judiciary is an independent body and cannot be dictated by his office.
He also said that judges and magistrates are supposed to be neutral on every issue, adding that the letter did not originate from his office.

He further said that unless that matter is brought before the court for direction, his office will not engage in such discussion and will treat it as politics.
